De Turn Up: From Church Keys to Studio Beats – The Journey of a Rising Rwandan Producer

In the heart of Kiyovu, nestled within Rwanda’s vibrant Nyarugenge District, a new wave of musical talent is quietly reshaping the soundscape of Rwandan music. RUDASINGWA Eric, known in the entertainment industry as De Turn Up, is one of the emerging voices behind the beats, melodies, and rhythms that are captivating a growing audience.

At just 25 years old, Eric has already walked a unique path—one that reflects resilience, creativity, and a deep-rooted passion for music cultivated from a young age. His journey from playing the piano in church to producing music in his very own studio is a true testament to hard work, faith, and self-belief.

From Worship to Waves: The Early Days

Born on May 2, 2000, in Kiyovu Cell, Eric grew up in an environment where community and music intertwined. As a child and teenager, he served in his local church worship team as both a singer and pianist. These early musical roots gave him a solid foundation in sound, rhythm, and harmony.

However, his journey into music production wasn’t immediate. After completing secondary school during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Eric didn’t initially pursue a career in the arts. Yet, the musical fire within him was undeniable. Inspired by the worship experiences of his youth and encouraged by his ability to create, he began experimenting with beats and melodies.

Stepping into Music Production

In 2022, Eric took a bold step forward—he started teaching himself music production. Using online resources, particularly YouTube tutorials, he began to understand the technical and creative aspects of beat-making, mixing, and sound engineering. With no formal training, his learning was fueled by passion, long hours, and a growing belief in his artistic potential.

I just believed I could do it,” he says, reflecting on those formative days. “I had the musical background, and I knew that with time and effort, I could build something.”

Facing Setbacks and Building HIGH SOUND REC

Like many aspiring creatives, Eric faced significant hurdles. In 2023, he found himself unemployed, lacking access to a professional studio or artists to collaborate with. But rather than give up, he turned adversity into opportunity. Determined to create a space of his own, he began working to raise funds and invest in building a music production studio.

By early 2024, his dream came to life with the birth of HIGH SOUND REC, a fully functional recording studio dedicated to nurturing new sounds and supporting artists. Since then, Eric has been steadily developing his brand and refining his craft, producing music that continues to improve with every project.

Emerging Projects and Sound Identity

Although some of his early tracks may not have made big waves, Eric’s recent work has begun to attract attention. Songs like "Woman" by Bonibaku, "Byabintu", and "Chanella" by Fly Twin showcase his evolving talent. These projects—some already released, others still in the pipeline—represent a shift in quality and vision, as De Turn Up aims to shape a signature sound grounded in Afrobeat, R&B, and modern African rhythms.

He also expresses interest in working with more established artists, including the popular Kenysol, as part of his vision to grow his network and broaden his creative influence in the music scene.

A Vision Beyond the Beat

De Turn Up is more than just a producer—he’s a dreamer with a clear goal: to create a space where young Rwandan artists can thrive, innovate, and feel heard. Through HIGH SOUND REC, he’s committed to empowering musicians who might otherwise lack access to professional production resources.

His story is still being written, but it already offers inspiration. From humble beginnings to establishing a personal studio, from worship music to radio-ready tracks, RUDASINGWA Eric is quietly becoming one of the most promising producers in Rwanda’s growing creative landscape.

And this is just the beginning.
